This little guy is fun.

The Echo Spot has been out for a little while now and we’ve put it to the test. The smaller screen (compared to the Echo Show) is a game changer. There are so many things this device can to help you throughout the day.

Here are some of our favorites:

  • Alarm
  • Clock
  • Playing Music
  • Timer for Cooking
  • Intercom
  • Weather
  • News
  • Controlling Lights

It’s everything you love about Alexa, in a stylish and compact design that can show you things. Just ask to see the weather, get the news with a video flash briefing, set an alarm, see your calendar, browse and listen to Audible audiobooks, etc… You can personalize your Echo Spot with a collection of clock faces to suit your style or set a photo background from Prime Photos. You can also make phone calls or video calls (we didn’t test the video calls yet).

We connected our Echo Spot to other Echo’s and Dot’s so that we could use it as an intercom and stream music throughout the house. This was an awesome feature and one we use all the time! The speakers sound really good and the microphone can pickup your requests from anywhere in the room.

We tested this with a bunch of Nest products and it works well. Controlling your cameras and thermostats are simple once you get them setup (pretty soon you won’t need to touch anything, just speak).

Echo Spot can use tens of thousands of skills and counting. Skills add even more capabilities like ordering a pizza (or Uber), tracking your fitness, controlling your TV, etc. New skills are being added all the time. You can also see ratings and reviews to learn what other customers are saying about the thousands of skills available in the Alexa App.

Overall, the screen changes the way you interact with Alexa. It’s a great blending of communication (visual and audio) and makes everyday tasks that much easier. If you’re in the market for upgrading your home or adding to your existing devices we recommend you checkout the Amazon Echo Spot.
